# [Blend cards - wine blending documentation](https://help.vineyardelf.com/blend-cards-wine-blending-documentation.md)

## What is a blend card?

A blend card is a record that documents the blending (cuvée) process - combining different batches of wine to achieve the desired flavour and character. Keeping this documentation is part of the winemaking records required by regulations in most wine-producing regions (for example, cellar and blending records under EU wine law).

## When to create a blend card?

- Blending wines from different fermentation batches
- Combining wines from different vintages
- Creating a cuvée (blend) from several grape varieties
- Any combination of wine batches that requires documentation

## What information does the card contain?

### Basic data
- **Card number** - a unique identifier (e.g. BC/2024/001)
- **Blending date** - when the blend was made
- **Product type** - grape wine, fruit wine, other
- **Wine type** - white, red, rosé

### Blend components
For each batch used in the blend:
- **Source tank** - where the wine was drawn from
- **Name/description** - batch identification
- **Weight** (kg) or **volume** (litres)

### Laboratory analyses
Blend test results:
- Analysis date
- Protocol number
- Alcohol content
- Total and volatile acidity
- Total extract

## Blend card statuses

- 📝 **Draft** - in preparation
