# [April 22, 2026: NanoSatellites — your vineyard from orbit](https://help.vineyardelf.com/nanosatellites-satellite-module.md)

New VineyardElf module: **NanoSatellites** — a satellite assistant for winegrowers based on Sentinel-2 data (ESA/Copernicus).

## What can NanoSatellites do?

- **NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index)** — a vegetation health indicator computed from Sentinel-2 bands B04 (red) and B08 (near infrared)
- **NDVI map** — a color overlay on a Leaflet map: from brown (bare soil) through yellow and light green to dark green (lush vegetation)
- **Per-parcel statistics** — average, min and max NDVI broken down by individual vineyard parcels
- **Health status** — automatic assessment: healthy (NDVI ≥ 0.5), moderate (0.3–0.5), stressed (< 0.3)
- **Daily cron** — automatic download of new scenes (Sentinel-2 passes every 5 days)
- **Dark mode** — dark theme with automatic system preference detection

## How does it work?

NanoSatellites connects to the free Copernicus Dataspace API (ESA). Sentinel-2 photographs the entire Earth every 5 days at 10m/pixel resolution. The dashboard fetches the latest low-cloud scene and computes vegetation indices for the defined vineyard parcels.

## What's next?

We plan to extend it with:
- **NDWI** (Normalized Difference Water Index) — water stress monitoring
- **NDMI** (Normalized Difference Moisture Index) — soil and leaf moisture
- **True Color** — natural RGB satellite imagery
- Multi-season comparisons and anomaly alerts
- Integration with VineyardElf weather alerts

The dashboard is available in the **NanoSatellites** tab in the VineyardElf panel.
