# [Planting documents - invoices and plant passports](https://help.vineyardelf.com/vineyardelf/planting-documents-invoices-and-plant-passports.md)

At an inspection, or when selling the vineyard, you need to show where the vines came from: the purchase invoice for the young plants and the plant passport. The **Planting documents** module keeps those papers with the batch of plants and links them to the rows the vines went into.

## A batch of young plants

A batch is one purchase: variety, rootstock, supplier, number of plants and planting year. To the batch you attach:

- the **invoice** for the plants (number, date, amount, scan),
- the **plant passport** - the document accompanying nursery material, with its number and supplier details,
- the **rows** the vines from that batch were planted into.

Thanks to the link with rows, each row then shows which batch its vines come from and what documents exist for it.

## Completeness overview

The batch list shows where an invoice or a passport is missing - far easier to chase the paper now than right before an inspection. **Print overview** gives you a printout of all batches with their documents.

## Why keep this

A plant passport confirms the health status and identity of the material. If years later a row turns out to be virused, or the variety does not match the label, these documents are the only evidence of where the vines came from. For a vineyard that intends to state the variety on the label, this is also part of the provenance chain.
