Account setup - winery profile, language and units

Updated at: 3 min read

Set the account up once, before you enter your first wine. You choose the winery profile, the interface language, the units you actually measure in and the producer details that get printed on document headers. Every other module in Elf reads from here.

Where to find it

In the menu choose Settings. The profile, the language and the units are saved to the account, not to the browser, so they follow you from the computer to the phone.

Winery profile

Under Account type there is one setting, Winery profile, with two options:

  • Standard - no Polish filings, with client field - the profile for a winery outside Poland. No Polish regulatory reporting, English by default, and a client field on vessels and fermentation records so you can mark whose wine you are making. This is what you want if you make wine anywhere other than Poland, and it is also the right one for contract winemaking.
  • Poland - KOWR and excise compliance - adds the Polish regulator’s declarations, excise stamp records and customs notices. Only useful if you file in Poland.

The profile decides what appears in the menu. On the Standard profile the Polish reporting modules are simply not there, so you are not walking past screens that do not apply to you.

Changing the profile is an account-level setting, so an administrator does it.

Interface language

Whatever the profile, you can set Interface language to English, Polish or French. The change takes effect immediately. The Standard profile starts in English.

Measurement units

Under Measurement units set:

  • Density unit - the default unit for fermentation readings: °Brix, °Blg (Balling), °Bé (Baumé), °Oe (Oechsle), SG (specific gravity) or °KMW (Klosterneuburg). Australian wineries normally want Baumé, most of Europe wants Brix or Oechsle.
  • Temperature unit - °C (Celsius) or °F (Fahrenheit).
  • Currency - the currency code shown next to amounts, for example AUD, EUR or GBP.

A reading is always stored in the unit you entered it in. The account unit only decides what you see by default on the chart and in the form, so nothing is lost or silently converted if a colleague enters a figure in a different unit.

Producer details

Under Producer details fill in the winery or producer name, the contact name, the address, the tax identification number (your ABN, VAT number or EIN, whichever applies) and the production address if it differs from the registered one.

These go into the header of fermentation logs, blend cards and the bottling book, and they are prefilled when you start a new book. Documents keep a copy of the details from the moment they are created, so renaming the business later does not rewrite printouts you have already issued and filed.

If you leave this section empty, documents print without a header.

Notes

Do the settings first and the rest of the module falls into place: the analysed readings come out in your units, the printouts carry your letterhead and the menu shows only what your winery actually has to keep.
