QR code generator for wine labels (EU 2021/2117)

Updated at: 2 min read

Why QR codes on wine?

Since 8 December 2023, wine labels in the EU must include:

  • Nutrition information
  • The list of ingredients (including allergens)

Instead of printing all of this on a small label, you can place a QR code that links to a page with the full information.

How it works in WineryElf

1. Fill in the label data

Open the batch record and complete the Label section:

  • Wine name
  • Producer
  • Nutrition values (energy, carbohydrates, sugars…)
  • Allergens (e.g. sulphites)

2. Generate the QR code

In the batch record view, click the 🔲 QR code button.

A page opens with:

  • The QR code (40×40 mm)
  • A preview of the data the customer will see
  • A print button

3. Print the sticker

Click 🖨️ Print QR code.

  • Sticker format: 60×90 mm
  • Includes: the QR code + key data
  • Ideal for label printers

What does the customer see after scanning?

The customer scans the QR code with their phone and sees a page with:

Nutrition values (per 100 ml)

Nutrient Value
Energy 80 kcal / 335 kJ
Fat 0 g
Carbohydrates 0 g
- of which sugars 0 g
Protein 0 g
Salt 0 g

Allergens

⚠️ Contains sulphites

Producer details

  • Winery name
  • Batch number
  • Vintage
  • Alcohol

EU 2021/2117 requirements

The regulation requires the QR code to:

  • ✅ Link to a page containing only product information (no ads, no tracking)
  • ✅ Be accessible without logging in
  • ✅ Contain all mandatory data (energy, ingredients, allergens)
  • ✅ Be in the language of the country of sale

WineryElf meets all of these requirements.

Tips

  • Test before printing - scan the code with your phone and check that the data is correct
  • Nutrition values - for a dry wine most values are 0; energy depends on the alcohol content
  • Allergens - almost every wine contains sulphites (SO₂)
  • Updates - if you change the data in the batch record, the QR code automatically shows the new values (the URL stays the same)

Where to find it?

WineryElf menu → 🍷 Batch records → select a record → 🔲 QR code
