Printing QR labels for vessels

You print QR labels straight from the app: tick the vessels on the list, pick a sticker template and print a finished sheet or roll. Every label carries a QR code, the code written out underneath it (to type in by hand) and the vessel name plus the fields you choose.

What it is for

• Stick a durable QR label on a tank or a barrel and from then on scan the vessel with your phone instead of looking for it by name.
• Print many labels at once on one sheet, or one at a time on a roll printer.
• The code printed under the QR can be typed in by hand if a scan fails.

Where to find it

In the menu choose Vessels. Tick the vessels you want to label - there is a tick box in each row, and one in the header that selects them all. A bar appears above the list showing Selected: 3 and a Print labels button.

Printing labels

1. On the vessel list tick one or more vessels.
2. Click Print labels. The Print QR labels page opens with a 1:1 preview of the sheet.
3. Choose a Template (see below).
4. For sheets you can set Start at position if some stickers on the sheet have already been used - the app leaves that many spaces empty at the start.
5. Tick up to two Label fields (max 2): Kind, Capacity, Location or Material.
6. Click Print, and in your browser’s print dialogue set the scale to 100% (not “fit to page”) and margins to “none”.

Sticker templates

• Avery L4776 (99.1 x 42.3 mm, 12 per sheet) - the default, fine for both tanks and barrels.
• Avery L7992 (99.1 x 57 mm, 10 per sheet) - more room for the extra fields.
• Avery L4773 (63.5 x 33.9 mm, 24 per sheet) - small stickers for kegs and small barrels.
• Avery L4774 (99.1 x 139 mm, 4 per sheet) - large labels for tanks, with a name readable from several metres away.
• DYMO 101 x 59 mm (roll) and Zebra 76 x 76 mm (roll) - for roll label printers.

Test before you print a whole batch

• Test scan shows a single label at its real size on screen. Scan it with your phone and check that it opens the right vessel before you commit a full sheet.
• Test print (outline) prints just the label outlines on a plain sheet of paper. Hold it against the sticker sheet up to the light and check that the outlines land on the die cuts. It costs you one sheet of paper and saves you a sheet of stickers.

Which material to buy

For the cellar and the shed buy polypropylene or polyester stickers (waterproof) - Avery L4776, DYMO LW Durable or Zebra PolyPro, for instance. Ordinary paper will not survive the damp and the splashes.

Chrome and Safari

• A4 sheets print correctly in any browser.
• Rolls are best printed from Chrome on a desktop - it sets the label size for you. Safari does not, so you have to pick the label paper size by hand in the print dialogue.

Notes

The app remembers the template and the fields you used last, so the next print run is quicker. The QR code belongs to the vessel, not to the sticker - if a sticker is damaged, print a fresh label for the same vessel and the code is unchanged.
