Why do I need a disease monitor?
Fungal diseases can wipe out an entire harvest. But you don’t have to spray “just in case”! VineyardElf analyzes the weather and tells you when there is a real infection risk.
This way you can:
- Spray only when it’s actually needed
- Save on plant protection products
- React before the disease develops
Which diseases do we monitor?
Powdery Mildew
A white, powdery coating on leaves and fruit. The Gübler-Thomas model assesses risk based on nighttime temperatures.
Downy Mildew
Yellow spots on leaves with a grey coating underneath. The Mills Rule model analyzes rainfall and humidity.
Black Rot
Dark spots and mummification of the fruit. The Cornell/Spotts model assesses the risk.
Botrytis (Grey Mould)
A grey, fluffy coating on the fruit. The IFV/UC Davis model evaluates infection conditions.
Tab navigation
The disease monitor uses tab navigation - each disease has its own tab:
- 🍂 Downy Mildew
- 🌫️ Powdery Mildew
- ⚫ Black Rot
- 🍇 Botrytis (Grey Mould)
In each tab you’ll find:
- A pie chart with the current risk %
- Weather conditions that favor the disease
- Symptoms and protection recommendations
- A risk history chart
Actions section
Below the disease tabs there is an actions section that is always visible:
- 💧 Apply spray - add a treatment to the log
- 🧪 Demo mode - test the system with different scenarios
- 🔔 Notify at 90% - set up alerts
- 📈 View history - data archive
Demo mode
Click the “Demo mode” button to see how the system behaves at different risk levels:
- 🟢 Low (25%)
- 🟡 Medium (55%)
- 🟠 High (78%)
- 🔴 ALERT (100%)
You can also simulate a spray and see how the protection indicator changes.
How to read the results?
| Color | Risk | What to do? |
|---|---|---|
| Green | Low (0-20%) | Relax, keep watching |
| Yellow | Moderate (20-40%) | Stay alert |
| Orange | Elevated (40-60%) | Consider spraying |
| Red | High (60%+) | Take action! |
How to set up alerts?
- Click the “🔔 Notify at 90%” button
- Set the alert threshold (90% by default)
- Save - done!
When the risk crosses the threshold, you’ll get a notification via SMS, email or WhatsApp.
Tip: Set the alert at 40-50% - this gives you time to react before the risk becomes critical.
