Vineyard camera - Reolink monitoring + AI

24/7 visual monitoring of your vineyard with a Reolink IP camera and automatic AI analysis (Roboflow YOLO).

What does it do?

A Reolink camera mounted in the vineyard takes a snapshot every 30 seconds and uploads it to the server. The system automatically analyzes each snapshot with artificial intelligence, detecting:

  • Plant condition - growth stages (BBCH), diseases, pests
  • Frost protection check - during spring frosts, you can see from home whether the sprinklers are running
  • General oversight - keep an eye on the vineyard from anywhere

How it works

Reolink camera → FTP upload every 30s → Server → Roboflow YOLO AI → Results on the dashboard
  1. The camera takes a snapshot every 30 seconds
  2. The photo is uploaded to the server over FTP
  3. VineyardElf fetches the snapshot and sends it for AI analysis
  4. The result (detections with annotations) appears on the dashboard

Live view on the dashboard

The main VineyardElf dashboard shows a Vineyard camera widget with:

  • Live preview - the image refreshes automatically every 30 seconds
  • An Auto button (enable/disable auto-refresh)
  • Manual refresh
  • The status of the latest AI analysis

Configuration

In the Vineyard camera tab (sidebar) you can set:

  • Snapshot URL - the HTTP address that returns a photo from the camera
  • Roboflow API key - for AI analysis
  • AI model - e.g. a grapevine disease model
  • Monitoring interval - how often automatic analysis runs
  • Auto-monitoring - enable/disable recurring analysis
  • Camera: Reolink E1 Zoom (PTZ, 5MP, WiFi, ~70 EUR)
  • Power: USB or PoE
  • Connection: vineyard WiFi
  • Upload: FTP to your hosting server

Planned extensions

  • Bird detection - automatically detect birds and scare them off with sound through an API-controlled speaker
  • Multi-camera - several cameras covering different parts of the vineyard
  • Time comparison - photos from the same spot across different days/weeks
  • PTZ control - remotely pan and zoom the camera
